About Us | RHIS | 2011 Program of Work

Anticipated Issues

  • Many new members of Congress will not be familiar with crop insurance and its importance to agriculture and rural America.
  • As Washington begins to focus on the overall budget deficit, there will be a continuing need to defend the crop insurance program against cuts that would reduce the program’s availability and effectiveness.
  • Discussion and work toward a 2012 Farm Bill will continue and there will be a need to assure that crop insurance continues to be viewed as a significant part of the agriculture safety net.

Proposed Society Actions

  • Maintain a strong Society membership and continue to maintain a strong PAC.
  • Continue to increase our effectiveness at the grass roots level through communications to members via email updates on Washington issues affecting crop insurance.
  • Capitalize on opportunities to provide input on crop insurance issues to elected officials and candidates and maximize the effectiveness of our PAC dollars.
  • Support the efforts of AACI and other organizations with views similar to the Society in building coalitions to support crop insurance.
