Job Title: Technical Support Specialist

Department: Information Technology
Reports to: Information Technology Manager, Technical Support Specialist II
Purpose: The purpose of this job is to answer help desk calls, provide technical assistance and hardware/software support to employees, and customers of Rain and Hail.  The individual would be involved with testing and documenting software and business processes in preparation for release and distribution.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answer, log and monitor progress of Help Desk calls in a fashion that provides timely and professional service to Divisions Agents and Adjusters.
  • Plan, organize, review, and audit and the testing of Rain and Hail developed software, to include online processing quoting, and other tools as programming changes are integrated.
  • Provide on-call customer support line coverage outside standard business hours.
  • Be fluent in the following software components:
      • Microsoft Outlook
      • Web Browsers, specifically MS Internet Explorer
      • Network basics for file transfers and management
      • Windows 98 and Windows 2000, Windows XP
      • Virtual Private Network (VPN)/Dial-up
      • All Rain and Hail software available on agent, adjuster, and policyholder sites
        Word Processing & Spreadsheets
      • Acrobat Reader
  • Document and explain requests for software modifications to programming staff.
  • Be knowledgeable with the following hardware components:
      • Personnel Computers
      • Workstation and Server components
      • Scanners and Printers
  • Other work duties as assigned by management

  • Detail oriented, with organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.
  • Flexible work schedule as priorities dictate.
  • Valid driver’s license for duties involving local travel.

Job Qualifications

Education:
Associates Degree or Baccalaureate Degree in business, Computer Science or other related fields or equivalent work experience.

Experience:
One or more years previous experience working with office environment software packages.  Prior experience with  hardware, personal computers, word processing, imaging, and other software packages is also required.  Previous agricultural experience as it applies to the insurance industry is preferred.
